Spawning [ ]
Natural generation [ ]
Cows spawn in small herds higher up grass blocks. Yet, their spawn rate varies per biome. Most cows spawn as adults, merely they take a 5% run a risk of spawning as a calf, or baby moo-cow.
In Boulder Edition, herds of two to iii cows spawn in grass blocks at a light level of nine or higher with at least ii blocks of infinite in a higher place, except in snowy taigas, snowy plains, meadows, mangrove swamps and wooded badlands. Cows normally spawn individually above grass after world generation.
In Java Edition, herds of 4 cows spawn on grass blocks at a light level of 7 or higher with at to the lowest degree 2 blocks of space in a higher place, except in snowy plains, meadows, mangrove swamps and wooded badlands. Cows rarely spawn individually in a higher place grass after globe generation.
Villages [ ]
A moo-cow sometimes spawns inside animal pens and butchers' houses in villages.
Mooshrooms [ ]
Shearing a mooshroom turns it into a cow and drops five mushrooms corresponding to the type of mooshroom.
Drops [ ]
Adult cows driblet:
- 0–two leather . The maximum amount is increased by i per level of Looting, for a maximum of 5 with Annexation III.
- 1–3 raw beefiness (or steak if killed while on fire). The maximum amount is increased past 1 per level of Annexation, for a maximum of half dozen with Looting 3.
- 1–three experience orbs are dropped when killed by a role player or tamed wolf.
- 1–vii feel orbs upon successful breeding.
Killing a dogie yields no items nor experience.
Behavior [ ]
A moo-cow wanders around frantically, mooing and huffing in small-scale herds occasionally. A moo-cow quickly flees for a few seconds when harmed. Additionally, cows tend to:
- get to lit and grassy places.
- sometimes look at players within eight horizontal and iv vertical blocks for two to four seconds.
- avoid going to water unless they are following players and ever avoid traversing minecart rails and walking off cliffs high plenty to cause fall damage.
- avoid environmental hazards, such every bit fire, lava, cactus, sweetness berry bushes or dripstone, but make no attempts to avert explosions.
- cows tin can step on pressure plates, jump on dripleaves or farmland and climb ladders, stairs, vines and cavern vines.
Milking [ ]
An adult moo-cow can be milked by using a saucepan on it, yielding a milk bucket.
Breeding [ ]
A cow follows a histrion who holds wheat but stops following if separated from the player past at to the lowest degree vi blocks. Adult cows enter love mode and pair off to create calves after they are given wheat, granting the histrion ane to 7 feel orbs. The parent cows have a cooldown of 5 minutes before they can brood once again. Babies follow adult cows and take 20 minutes to grow up.
A calf that results from breeding attempts to pathfind to the nearest available block to its parent, even if no path can be found. However, if the calf is separated from its parent by more than 24 blocks, it pathfinds to another developed cow. The growth of calves tin be accelerated using wheat; each use reduces the remaining growth duration past 10%.

Trivia [ ]
- Cows are visually based on the Norwegian Red cattle.
- Cows in the PC Gamer Minecraft Demo are branded with a 'PCG' logo on their side.
- Notch stated in a Tumblr mail service that all "breedable" peaceful mobs displayed traits of both genders and could brood with any other individual of their species.[1] This applies to cows every bit they take horns and give milk (although, in some breeds, female cows as well take horns).
- Cows prefer to stay on lit places to dim places.
